Moving Services We Offer in Stellenbosch
Anyone who has tried to reverse a truck down a one way section of Dorp Street on a Friday afternoon knows that moving in Stellenbosch has its own rules. Narrow historic streets. Water furrows along the kerb. Oak branches hanging low over the road. A student population that empties and refills half the town twice a year. Complexes with a security boom and a two hour access window.
None of that is a problem if your mover has done it a hundred times. It becomes an expensive problem if they have not.
This page covers every service Eikestad Vervoer offers as a moving service in Stellenbosch, who each one is for, what drives the price, and how to get your move done in one day instead of three. By the end you should know exactly which service fits your situation and what to have ready before the truck arrives.

What a Moving Service in Stellenbosch Should Include
“Moving company” means very different things to different operators. Some are two guys with a bakkie and a WhatsApp number. Some are national franchises quoting off a spreadsheet from somewhere else entirely. A proper local moving service in Stellenbosch should cover:
- A walkthrough or detailed inventory before quoting, so the truck that arrives is the right size
- A trained crew who wrap and load, not just lift
- Protective materials as standard: blankets, shrink wrap, corner protection, mattress covers
- Realistic timing that accounts for access, stairs and parking
- One point of contact from quote to final offload
If a quote comes back without anyone asking how many bedrooms you have, what floor you are on, or whether a truck can park within twenty metres of your door, that is not a quote. That is a guess, and you pay for the difference on the day.
Our Services
Home Moving
This is the core of what we do. Full home moves from one bedroom flats in Universiteitsoord through to four and five bedroom family homes in Mostertsdrift, Brandwacht, Welgevonden, Paradyskloof, Die Boord, Idas Valley and the surrounding suburbs.
A home move with us includes wrapping and protecting your furniture, loading, transport, offload, and placing items in the correct rooms at the new address. We ask for a room by room walkthrough before quoting, in person or by video, because a three bedroom house with a full garage and a garden shed is a very different load to a three bedroom house that has already been half packed into storage.
Apartments and complexes fall under this too, and they come with their own admin. Booking a lift. Getting a gate code. Limited loading bay time. Body corporates that do not allow moves on Sundays or public holidays. Send us the complex or estate name with your enquiry and we will confirm the access requirements before the day rather than argue with a security guard at 8am.
Student moves also sit here. Stellenbosch University shifts a lot of people twice a year, out of res in November and into digs and res around late January and February. We move students out of res, between digs, and back home at the end of the year. If you and two housemates are all moving in the same week, book together. One truck doing three loads in a day works out cheaper per person than three separate call outs.
Stairs matter. A second floor flat with no lift adds real time to a move, and any mover who does not ask about stairs will surprise you with a variation on the invoice.

Office Relocations
Offices, consulting rooms, small warehouses and retail spaces in town, in Techno Park, along the Adam Tas corridor and in Plankenbrug.
We work weekdays, so business moves get planned around your quietest weekday, which for most offices means a Friday so that you are set up and trading again on Monday morning. We move desks, workstations, filing, shelving, storage units and server cabinets. Disconnecting and reconnecting your IT is normally handled by your own technician. We move the hardware, they plug it back in.
The single best thing you can do for an office move is a colour coded labelling system tied to a floor plan of the new premises. Every desk, box and cabinet gets a colour, every room at the new office gets the same colour on the door. The crew then places everything correctly the first time instead of stacking it in reception for you to sort out on Monday.
Furniture Transportation Service
Sometimes you are not moving house. You have bought a lounge suite in Somerset West, or you are sending a bedroom set to a family member in Paarl, or a shop needs a delivery run of furniture that will not fit in a bakkie.
Our furniture transportation service handles exactly that: a load of furniture from A to B, wrapped and secured properly, without the full home moving process around it. Same trucks, same crew, same care in the loading. It is a common call for second hand purchases, marketplace buys, deliveries between family homes and small business stock runs.
One condition applies here as much as anywhere else: it has to be multiple items. More on that below.

Packing, Unpacking and Wrapping
Packing is where most self moves go wrong. Not because it is difficult, but because people underestimate it by about three days.
We offer:
- Full packing: we arrive ahead of moving day, pack everything, label by room, and load the next morning
- Partial packing: we handle the breakables, the kitchen and the wardrobes, you do the rest
- Wrapping only: included as standard on every move we do
Wrapping is not an upsell on our jobs. Blankets go on wooden and upholstered items, shrink wrap goes over the blankets, mattresses get covers, and anything with a sharp edge or a glass panel gets corner protection. Appliances get wrapped and secured so that doors cannot swing open in transit.
If you are packing yourself, pack heavy items in small boxes and light items in big boxes. Everyone does the opposite, and then nobody can lift the box of books.
What We Do Not Do
Being upfront saves everyone a phone call:
- No single item moves. We do not move one couch, one fridge or one bed on its own. Small moves are genuinely welcome and we do plenty of them, but the load has to be multiple items. A truck and crew cost the same whether they carry one item or twenty, so a single item is poor value for you and not viable for us. A courier or local bakkie service will serve you better there.
- No moves beyond 300km.
- No hazardous goods: petrol, gas bottles that are not empty and sealed, paint thinners, ammunition, or anything flammable.
Where We Move: Stellenbosch and 300km Around It
We are based in Stellenbosch and we move up to 300km from here, which covers most of the Western Cape.
That includes the full Cape Town metro, Somerset West, Strand, Gordon’s Bay, Kuils River, Bellville, Durbanville, Brackenfell, Paarl, Wellington, Franschhoek, Klapmuts, Malmesbury, Worcester, Ceres, Hermanus, Kleinmond, Langebaan and the Overberg towns.
Longer runs are quoted differently to local moves because the truck and the crew are committed for the full day, sometimes longer. Book earlier for these, especially in December and January.
Anything past 300km falls outside our service area. If you are moving to Gauteng or the Eastern Cape we would rather tell you that now than take the job and do it badly.
Moving in Stellenbosch Is Not Like Moving Anywhere Else
The Historic Centre
Dorp Street, Church Street, Andringa, Bird and the surrounding blocks are beautiful and awkward in equal measure. One way sections, water furrows along the kerb, limited kerbside parking and low hanging oak branches.
We plan around it. On tight streets we will often shuttle with a smaller vehicle between the house and a larger truck parked on a wider road nearby. It adds a bit of time and it beats discovering at 8am that the truck physically cannot reach the door.
The University Calendar
Late January into February is move in season. November into early December is move out season. In those weeks every mover in the Boland is booked solid, the roads around res and the student suburbs are congested, and the good time slots go first.
If your move falls in either window, book three to four weeks ahead. If it falls in the second half of December, book earlier still, because family relocations peak at exactly the same time.
Complexes, Estates and Access Rules
Estates around Stellenbosch and Jamestown often want vehicle registration details submitted in advance, and many limit truck access to set hours during the working day. That fits how we operate, since we run weekdays between 8am and 5pm.
Give us the complex or estate name when you request a quote and we will handle that admin for you.
Cape Weather and Peak Season
Winter here is wet. From May through August, assume at least a chance of rain on moving day. We wrap for it and we carry covers, but mattresses and upholstered furniture are the items to protect first.
Summer brings the opposite problem, which is heat in a truck that has been standing in the sun. Candles, vinyl records, electronics and anything with a battery should travel in your own car if you can manage it.
How to Choose a Moving Company in Stellenbosch
Run any mover you are considering through this list:
- Did they inspect or inventory before quoting? If not, the number is unreliable.
- Is the quote itemised? Truck, crew, hours, materials, travel. A single number with no breakdown is a warning sign.
- Who is actually doing the move? Their own crew, or a subcontractor they have never met.
- What do recent Google reviews say? Look at the last six months, and read the negative ones. How a company answers a complaint tells you more than the five star reviews do.
- Is wrapping included or extra? It should be included.
- Do they say no to anything? A mover who claims to do everything for everyone usually has not thought about it much.
- What happens if something breaks? Get that answer before you book, not after.
What Actually Changes the Price of Your Move
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Volume | The biggest driver by far. More stuff means a bigger truck or more trips. |
| Distance | A move within Stellenbosch versus a run to Hermanus or Malmesbury. |
| Access | Stairs, no lift, long carry from truck to door, narrow street access. |
| Packing | Full pack, partial pack, or you pack yourself. |
| Timing | Month end, December and January, and student move weeks are busier. |
| Special items | Safes, pianos, oversized glass, gym equipment. |
Quick reference on what fits what:
| Move size | Typical | Usual crew and time |
|---|---|---|
| Small (multiple items) | Digs room, bachelor flat, partial household | 2 crew, half day |
| Medium | 2 to 3 bedroom flat or house | 2 to 3 crew, full day |
| Large | 4 bedroom plus, garage and outbuildings | 3 to 4 crew, full day or two trips |
| Office | Small to medium premises | Scheduled around your downtime |
Seven Things That Make Moving Day Go Faster
- Pack a first night box. Kettle, mugs, chargers, toilet paper, medication, a change of clothes, bedding. Keep it in your car, not the truck.
- Label by room, not by contents. The crew needs to know where a box goes, not what is inside it. Write the room on the top and on one side.
- Empty and defrost the fridge a day ahead. A fridge moved with water in the drip tray leaks over everything under it.
- Photograph the back of your TV and desk setup. You will not remember which cable went where.
- Keep valuables, documents and jewellery with you. Not because anything will happen, but because you will sleep better.
- Confirm access at both ends the day before. Gate codes, boom access, lift booking, parking.
- Feed the crew. Not required, appreciated, and it genuinely speeds up the afternoon.
