Moving in La Colline is not like moving anywhere else in Stellenbosch
Most of La Colline’s housing is either an older semi-detached home on streets like Taylor, Mount Albert, Molteno and Dr Malan, or a flat in one of the complexes that line Bird Street and the roads behind it.
Both come with their own problems on moving day.
The complexes mean stairs, doorways that were never designed for a three-seater couch, visitor parking bays that a five ton truck cannot use, and a gate guard who needs to be told you are coming. The older homes mean established gardens, narrow side passages, and street parking that fills up fast once the university is in session.
Then there is the calendar. La Colline empties and refills with the academic year. If you are moving in the last two weeks of January or in the week after final exams, you are competing with every other person in your building for the same Saturday. That is not a reason to panic, it is a reason to book early.

- Walk-ups without lifts. Most La Colline flats are stair access. That is priced into your quote upfront, not added afterwards.
- Street parking in term time. On Taylor, Mount Albert and Dan Pienaar we plan the truck position in advance so we are not blocking half the road for two hours.
- Tight side passages on the older semi-detached homes, which is where experienced movers earn their keep.
